After 46 Years, Le Soir French Restaurant in Bayport Closes Its Doors
Update: Le Soir has a new owner and new name: Sunflower Cafe & Bakery. Click here to read the story.
Le Soir, the French restaurant at 825 Montauk Highway in Bayport, has closed its doors. No reason was given for the closing and no one answered the phone at the restaurant when we called. A recorded message simply states that the restaurant is closed.
“As of November 29th, the restaurant will be closed,” the message says. “And we would like to thank you for your patronage.”
The property is listed for sale on various real estate websites. Douglas Cabral with Century 21 Excelsior Realty is the listing broker on the deal.
“An opportunity to own an established turnkey restaurant operation in Bayport,” reads the listing. “Le Soir Restaurant and property are now available for purchase. With a prime location on Montauk Hwy, this is the perfect opportunity to acquire a highly sought-after spot.”
The price for the property and the business is $1.6 million.
Cabral confirmed that a sale is pending.
Le Soir featured a menu of French fare including Escargots Bourguignonne, baked snails in garlic butter, Black Angus New York Steak au Poivre (a black peppercorn sauce), and a Canard Rôti à l’Orange (roast duck with orange sauce).
The restaurant had been described in reviews as a “quaint cottage style house” that was tucked behind a hedgerow, making it easy to miss if you didn’t know where to look for it. Le Soir was owned by Michaël and Janis Kaziewicz who bought it in 1977. Janis ran the front of the restaurant while Michaël served as chef. Michaël passed away in 2018. In 2012, Le Soir was damaged in a summer fire but it reopened by February of the next year.
We will update this story as more information becomes available.
