Ford’s Garage Restaurant Begins Construction at Smith Haven Mall

The automotive-themed restaurant Ford’s Garage is under construction at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove. So far there is no set opening date, according to a representative from the company.

Co-founded by Long Island native, Steve Israel (the real estate developer, not the ex-Congressman who now owns a bookstore in Oyster Bay), Ford’s Garage was launched in 2012.

It was first announced last October that Ford’s Garage was taking over the space at 355 Smith Haven Mall at the former Bobby’s Burger Palace location. The Bobby Flay-owned burger joint closed in 2020 during Covid after opening back in 2008.

Decorated with Ford Motor Company-sanctioned branding and memorabilia, the eatery is built to resemble a 1920s service station complete with either a Model T or Model A car hung above the bar. The burger joint offers a selection of craft beers and comfort food for the casual diner.

The chain began franchising in 2015 with 22 locations. There are currently no locations in New York. Israel told Franchising.com that he and his partners expect to open up to five restaurants across Long Island over the next few years.
