Hirosaki Sushi & Hibachi Now Open at Former Kumo Location in Stony Brook
Hirosaki, serving a similar menu to the former restaurant in the spot, has now opened at the old Kumo location. Kumo closed down last fall after dozens of people fell ill at the restaurant in Stony Brook.
The new sushi spot at 2548 Nesconset Highway in Stony Brook is the next incarnation of Kumo. Staff at the restaurant said that it was under new ownership and management.
John P. Ruggiero, the attorney for the owners of Kumo, said at the time that cooked hibachi rice was not being rapidly-cooled in accordance with Suffolk County Department of Health guidelines, which caused people to become ill.
