New Restaurant Proposed for Old St. James Public House Spot

A new restaurant named The Stone Goat is being proposed for the old St. James Public House building at 552 North Country Road, according to Smithtown Planning Board records.

The site has seen a number of businesses come and go over the last 10 years or so. Before it was St. James Public House, it was briefly Grant’s Place and before that it was Five.Five 2. Prior to that it was O’s Food & Wine Bar.

A site plan was conditionally approved by the planning board for the newest endeavor on June 6th.

Plans call for three additions totaling 692.5 square feet, a 472.5-square-foot one-story addition, a 67-square-foot glass vestibule and a 153-square-foot freezer box to the existing restaurant. There is also a proposed change of use of a detached office building to microbrewery and parking lot modifications along with associated site work.

In the planning department meeting the site plans and change of ownership were both discussed.

“They are proposing a sunroom off the north side of the building, a vestibule addition, and a freezer box on the south side,” said Liam Trotta and environmental planner in the Smithtown planning department. “And they’ll pave the parking lot.”

The detached building that was an office building is being converted to a microbrewery with a patio around it, according to Trotta’s proposal to the board.

We will follow up with more information as it becomes available and with an expected opening date.
