While many speculated why the building was being removed, there are no current plans for the site right now, according to a response to inquiries about the reason the building was razed from Josh Heller, a public information specialist at the New York State Department of Transportation.

“The 56th Fighter Group Restaurant building is being removed for health and safety reasons,” Heller said in an email to LongIslandRestaurants.com. “The structure, which has sat empty for more than 10 years, was evaluated by the East Farmingdale Fire Department and they emphasized the importance of removing the dilapidated restaurant building.”

People have flocked to social media after hearing the news to reminisce about their times eating, drinking and dancing at the 56th Fighter Group Restaurant over the years.
