Owner of New Bull Smith’s Tavern in Smithtown is Looking to Create an Instant Classic

Bull Smith’s Tavern, a new bar and restaurant, is getting set to open in the former Croxley Ale House spot on Friday, May 17th. That’s the day that owner, Max Feinberg says they will finally be able to open their doors after months of planning and a complete renovation of the space.

Taking up residence at 155 West Main Street in Smithtown, Bull Smith’s Tavern is a tavern that has an eclectic menu, a 90-seat dining room, plenty of space at the bar with seven TVs for watching the game, and an outdoor deck that seats 30 people.

“It’s like a brand new building,” said Feinberg in a recent interview with LongIslandRestaurants.com. “You wouldn’t recognize it.”

The location that also used to be Arthur Avenue Restaurant, which closed around 2012, has a second floor that Feinberg hopes to make into a banquet hall and catering room area for events. On the first floor, there are also garage doors that will open up to a large wrap-around outdoor area for when the weather gets warm, creating an indoor/outdoor flow. Feinberg describes Bull Smith’s Tavern as a traditional American tavern, sort of. The menu is “comprehensive,” according to Feinberg and he promises classic tavern fare like fish and chips and steak frites next to pasta dishes and pizzettes.

In addition to lunch and dinner, Bull Smith’s Tavern is going to offer a Sunday brunch eventually along with nightime entertainment, DJ, and live music.

The name, Bull Smith’s Tavern, is a call-back to the history of Smithtown and the legend of Richard Smith who rode on the back of a bull to define the perimeter of his property.

Feinberg, who also owns The Ugly Duckling in Long Beach, called back to the days of yore when people would flock to places like the 56th Fighter Club for happy hour after kicking off from work.

“We’re looking to bring a little nostalgia back,” he said. “We’re heavier on the food side but that’s the inspiration for our Friday happy hour.”

With the name and the classic interior that has been completely renovated, Feinberg is looking to hit the ground running. He’s looking to make Bull Smith’s Tavern a familiar spot for people from the get go with the best happy hour experience anywhere on Long Island.

“I’m hoping this place becomes a staple in the area,” he said. “We want that feeling of being an instant classic.”

The grand opening of Bull Smith’s Tavern at 155 W Main Street in Smithtown will be this Friday May 17th.
