Red Lobster in Stony Brook Closes Its Doors

Update: Red Lobster is reportedly considering filing for bankruptcy in an effort to reduce its debt and stay operational. The seafood chain plans to file a Chapter 11 petition before Memorial Day to negotiate new deals with landlords and creditors, aiming to eliminate hundreds of millions of dollars in debt, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

Red Lobster has had its struggles lately. Last year, they underestimated the cost of their all-you-can-eat shrimp deal that lost the corporation over $11 million. Now, the company has either closed or temporarily closed 87 locations across the country, according to a report in USA Today.

One of those is the seafood chain’s location in Stony Brook.

People started posting on social media that the Red Lobster in Stony Brook had shut its doors and on the official website the hours are nil. Others reported seeing workers removing equipment from the building. Whether this is a temporary shut down as the corporation ays or permanent remains to be seen.

A restaurant liquidator lists multiple locations that Red Lobster is selling its equipment but as of the writing of this article, Stony Brook is not listed yet.

LongIslandRestaurants.com reached out to Red Lobster corporate for a statement but has yet to hear a response from the company. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
