Report: Uncle Giuseppe’s Taking Over Greenvale Stop & Shop Location

Last week, Stop & Shop announced the closing of four underperforming Long Island stores. No future plans were revealed for those locations at the time but a report in Long Island Business News confirmed a rumor online: Uncle Giuseppe’s is set to move in to the Wheatley Plaza store in Greenvale.

This will be the eighth location on Long Island for Uncle Giuseppe’s. No timeline was given for the opening.

Stop & Shop had previously announced plans to close 32 underperforming stores by the end of the year as part of its growth strategy, including the four locations on Long Island. This decision aims to streamline operations and strengthen the company’s presence across its five-state footprint, which will still include over 350 stores after the closures.

The Long Island locations slated to be closed include:

  • 130 Wheatley Plaza, Greenvale
  • 294 Middle Country Road, Coram
  • 132 Fulton Ave., Hempstead
  • 2525 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow

Gordon Reid, President of Stop & Shop, emphasized the company’s commitment to its communities and the importance of adapting to ensure future growth.

“We remain dedicated to nourishing our associates, customers, and communities,” Reid said. “By closing underperforming stores, we aim to create a healthy base for our brand’s future.”
