Village Idiot Pub Opening Two More Locations in Riverhead and Hauppauge in June
Turns out the owners of Village Idiot Pubs are pretty smart. They’re expanding their Irish pubs into two new locations, one in Riverhead and another at the Suffolk OTB Racing Forum spot in Hauppauge. This is in addition to their pubs in Patchogue, Oakdale, and Lake Grove bringing the total number of Village Idiots on Long Island to five.
Village Idiot owner John Sarno said that the Hauppauge location at 425 Oser Avenue was temporarily open for the Kentucky Derby and Preakness with an off-premises permit. He plans to do the same for the Belmont Stakes running on June 8th. (Although that is a bit of a misnomer because the Belmont Stakes will actually be run at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs due to construction at the Long Island track.)
The new Riverhead location of the Village Idiot is going into the old Kenny’s on the Green spot at 661 Riverside Drive at the Indian Island golf course. Sarno, who also owns Castaways in Port Jeff and Drift 82 and Chops Steakhouse both in Patchogue, says both locations should be opening permanently in a few weeks.
“We filed for our liquor licenses,” he said. “Hoping for mid-June opening.”
Both locations are already built out and it’s a waiting game now for approvals.
Sarno said that the Hauppauge location has 15 bar stools and about 70 seats for dining. The Riverhead location is a similar size but with outside seating as well.
We will update this story as more information about grand opening dates become available.
